Bansko is well know as having the longest ski season in Bulgaria, generally from mid December until the mid April. In recent years the resort has seen massive investment turning what was a small local ski field into an international player. An 8 person gondola now provides access to the main ski area where several new 4 person Dopplemayer chairlifts have been installed as well as an extensive snowmaking system.
Unlike it's alpine counterparts prices in Bansko are still remarkably low, with a 6 day lift pass costing approximately £100 while ski hire and lessons are also relatively cheap.
The ski area has over 65km of marked ski runs as well as groomed cross country trails, where the 2007 world biathlon championships were held
The longest downhill run being 16km from Todorka Peak down to the gondola station in the village. The beginner runs begin outside the top gondola station and lessons with English speaking instructors are widely available. Snowboarders and freestyle skiers are well catered for with the new fun park and halfpipe, while there are ample opportunities for freeriders to test their off-piste and tree skiing skills. There are plenty of blue and red runs both in and above the tree line to keep you busy during your stay.
Night skiing is available one night per week
Snowshoeing expeditions into the pirin-mountains can be arranged locally
